The midst of Us

Jesus vs the Pharisees (as usual).  We, to this day, wring our hands about when the kingdom of God will come.  We see in Revelation the images of Jesus at his second coming riding on the clouds, bringing thunder and light, lasers shooting from his eyes.  We expect a loud, ostentatious entrance.  We expect a loud and clear announcement.  But is that Jesus style??  I think not.

We do know that he already came once.  He established his Kingdom, and it was not what the religious leaders were expecting.
The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.   What if he comes the second time more like the first? What if we are looking for the thunder from the heavens, but he slides in like – the Lamb of God??   What if he were to just show up one day, right in the midst of us?   What if He’s already here, in disguise.  What if He shows up again, homeless and penniless??   What would it mean if the homeless bum I just refused to feed turn out to be the return of the savior of the world??

“Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.””
