Definitely Weird

We live in a very confused world, with people claiming to have the word of God on their side arguing completely different sides of an issue.  Moral relativism of today argues that both can right.  There is no real right and wrong, only what “works for you”.   What’s truth for me can be wrong for you, and what’s truth for might not work for me.  There is no ultimate truth or authority.  Except that this IS their ultimate truth and authority – that there is no ultimate truth.  So, we now live in our society where just about anything goes.  We are moving like Superman’s speeding bullet away from anything based on ultimate truth.  Look at the last 10-15 years in America and ask yourself this question – Where will we be 50 years from now?  What will the world if our children and grandchildren look like.  Where will the blurred lines be by then?   Where will the ultimate truth of our world – that there is no ultimate truth – have taken us by then?

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. Whether they are mocking us for clinging to our bibles, for not subscribing to their state sponsored religion of evolution disguised as science ( the more we learn through science the less plausible evolution becomes), or not endorsing whatever behaviors or activities people engage in that we know are wrong, these false prophets are everywhere, inside and outside the church.

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.   This has 2 parts – that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ (Messiah) and that He came in flesh just like you and I.  If He did not come fully human, then He could not really die.  If we deny His flesh, then we are denying His love for us.   Because if He was not fully human, then His going to the cross and accepting that punishment as our sinless sacrifice just doesn’t work, because as God He could not die, much less die for our sins.

This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.   I don’t know about the antichrist, but I see anti-Christians everywhere.  The morning news, the nightly news, in our schools, behind judicial black robes, sometimes in our own hearts and minds.

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.   I need this verse,  I need to be reminded what Spirit I have in me as a professed follower of Christ.  The Holy Spirit – who is indeed greater than the spirit of satan – the spirit of accusation and condemnation – who is the spirit of this world.  I have to remember I have the Holy Spirit – because I hear these voices of accusation and condemnation somewhere every day.  If you don’t pray regularly and/or read the bible daily, how are you hearing from the Holy Spirit?  Because the unholy spirit is in every other part of our daily lives.

They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them.   The voices of accusation and condemnation – the world not only hears them and listens to them, but joins them in an ever louder cry.

We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.  Do we know God?  Are we listening to God?  If we speak the truth of God and people do not listen to us, it is nothing new.  If we hear the truth of God and instead choose to listen to the relative ‘truth” of this world, we are not from God.  Is your choice to be a man or woman of God?  Then understand now that you will be set apart.  You are supposed to be set apart, your voice is supposed to be different.  There is absolute truth in the world, a truth which has been revealed by God over thousands of years.  It is not a truth that tells us we can live however we want to.  But it is the truth of a living, loving God.  If you follow and believe in His truth, you might even be called “weird”.  The Oxford dictionary defines weird as “suggesting something supernatural; unearthly”.  I guess I’ll have to live with that.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. 1. Great post. Sad world.

As a writer and editor who’s looking for a full-time job, I would love to submit my blog/memoir as a writing sample because it’s the best (and longest) thing I’ve written. But I’m always afraid that the person on the receiving end of my resume is wearing one of those “I hate Christians” buttons (or, worse, a T-shirt).

      1. That would be nice, but I know very (VERY) few Christians. In fact, a lot of people stopped speaking to me once I became one. So, since we’re all the sum of our experiences, I tend to be pessimistic where that’s concerned. :\
