About Me

My name is John and I am a 40 something who has lived life separated from the power of Christ for most of my life. I began my recovery from alcoholism, gambling addiction, and sexual addiction in May 2014.  I finally accepted Christ into my life in September 2014. I started reading the Bible in May 2014 at the urging of my 12 step sponsor. Then I found the scripture that changed my life. It is found in each of the first 3 Gospels, as I was pleased to find out. It is found at Matthew 9:12, Mark 2:17, and Luke 5:31, all at the calling of Matthew by Jesus. From Luke -“Later, Levi held a banquet in his home with Jesus as the guest of honor. Many of Levi’s fellow tax collectors and other guests also ate with them. But the Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with such scum?” Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor – sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”” Luke 5:29-32. I had to reread that in Matthew 4 or 5 times when I first came to it. At that point in time, I was the scum Jesus was derided for eating with. And the response he gave…that he did not come for all those people who thought (with my agreement) they were better than me. That he came for ME!! That’s the power of actually picking the Bible up and reading it. It changed my life. So now I still read the Bible every day, discovering new things about God and Jesus every day. This blog is about that journey of discovery as I walk with Christ.  And that walk us Not for Punks!!
